US import emission factors by BEA Detail sector (kg/USD), vs. EPA's published 2019 numbers — CO2 matches well, CH4/N2O differ due to weighting.
US import emission factors by BEA Detail sector (kg per USD imported, computed from
this site's own trade.csv / trade_factor.csv, mapped to BEA Detail codes
via EPA's own Exiobase→BEA concordance).
Carbon dioxide tracks EPA's published 2019 import factors closely (median ratio ~0.9, 85% of BEA Detail sectors within 2x of EPA's number).
Methane and Nitrous oxide come out systematically lower here than in EPA's numbers —
it's a weighting-methodology difference: this page weights each BEA sector by
Exiobase's own bilateral trade-dollar amounts, while EPA weights by official Census import-share statistics.
CH4/N2O vary far more by country than CO2 does, so this weighting choice moves those two flows much more.
EPA's reference file only covers 2019 — other years show our own computed values with no EPA column.
